The IEEE 1394 High Performance Serial Bus is a versatile, high-speed and low cost method for transferring digital data between personal computer peripherals and consumer electronic devices. IEEE 1394 can transport data at 100/200/400 Mbps. They called it "Fire Wire".

The Firewire connection system, like the USB system, is hot-plug: you can add or remove the peripheral connection without having to reboot the computer.
